# Revit Naming Guidance

bimCAT tries automatically identify the materials used in your Revit project, but it can only do so effectively if the Revit family and material names are descriptive enough. You can view our list of typical materials used on projects and assessed using bimCAT and see what we suggest for naming schemes that help bimCAT understand what your families and materials actually mean.
